Religious Intolerance

During a tour of the State of Missouri's capitol building in Jefferson City this week our tour guide noted that in the 1800's ( the Governor of Missouri issued an order forcing the removal of Mormons from the state since the state law forbid Mormons from living in Missouri.

This religious intolerance remained the law of the land until then Governor Kit Bond (and future US Senator) pushed to officially eliminate the law from the state code in the 1970's. I found this historical footnote especially interesting since former Governor Mitt Romney ( , a clearly prominent Mormon, is running for President of the USA.
